Hello,
I am an helicopter pilot, mostly flying AS350 and AS365, lots of ferry flights in Europe, crossing 5 to 6 countries at a time. I have a few suggestions, from using SkyDemon along my flights, both for planning and flying with. I will try to put those suggestions by topics and in a succinct way. This suggestion in my opinion should improve SkyDemon use for helicopter flying.
Planning Mode:
Use of satellite imagery and RADAR, especially IR/visual imagery in order to plan the route to avoid weather. This imagery would only be available in planning mode since it does not make sense to have it in flight.
Use of more peak altitude points. There are only a few depicted maximum elevation points, there should be a lot more or at least a scale with more division colors to make it more clearly the terrain elevation. This should be available also in flight view.
Use of annotation in the print menu regarding maps, mostly magnetic track, time and fuel annotations. It happened to me that my iPad overheat, and I was always switching from the paper pilot log and paper maps to see the track and time.
Flight Mode:
Simpler, more clearly and efficient way of introducing a point during flight. In turbulence is difficult to manage that. The buttons should bigger in order to improve its use during the flight.
A way to remove or add waypoints/fix/airports/etc and make a "direct to" from the pilot log. That would be valuable.
Sometimes when doing route direct, the remainder flight plan is lost.
A way of showing the radio frequencies of FIS in the map more clearly. Sometimes during flight is difficult to efficiently see what is the next FIS radio frequency.
Maybe for some users, would be great to touch the helicopter or plane icon and create a user point. Like a marker of passing overhead something. Not useful for my kind of operation but could be useful for others.
Identification of nav aids in morse code. I don't recall all the bips of the code so it might be useful.
Radio Menu it's not useful as it is. It should show the closest radio frequencies available.
I think I may be missing some other details, your software is great, great tool to work with and is already one big advantage to planning flights on the go.
Thank you for all your work.
Kind regards.
